In 1998, in his first season in La Liga, he won both the title and the Copa del Rey. In 1999 he won another La Liga title with Barcelona and once again was the second highest scorer of the year with 24 goals. Individually, he won Fifa World Player of the Year and European Player of the Year. Next season a new coach, Louis Van Gaal, whom wanted him on the left wing, not as a playmaker. In that season, the number of his goals unbelievably decreased, and his morale dropped. After Van Gaal was fired, he went back to the playmaker's position. Once again, he was the second highest scorer in the La Liga. In the last game he scored his famous bicycle kick goal against Valencia where Barcelona won for 3-2.
